Big Drop in auto insurance rates is unlikely
- Miami Herald, September 11, 2007

“Floridians have wondered what happened to the promised rate relief on homeowners insurance. Now they may find the same fate awaits them on auto premiums. Insurers promised an average 13 percent to 16 percent drop in auto premiums once the state’s controversial no-fault insurance law expires…A Miami Herald review of various auto policies that come up for renewal early next month shows saving of 10 percent or less – and that is if consumers don’t buy medical payments coverage to replace benefits now provided by PIP.  Adding that wipes out any savings and in most cases costs more than before.”

All Floridians would lose if we lose PIP – not just accident victims
Medical costs now covered by PIP will be transferred to health insurers, making health insurance more expensive. Workers and their families will have o health coverage if employers no longer can afford it.

Know the facts:  If lawmakers allow PIP to sunset and only require Property Damage coverage, it would be the only state that requires drivers to protect property, but not people.

Governor Crist, Senate President Pruitt, House Speaker Rubio,
please protect all Floridians by extending PIP or replacing it with another form of mandatory medical coverage.
